Twitch.tv is a platform used for live video streaming focusing mainly on video games. Viewers can text chat with "streamers", dole out donations, and subscribe to channels.

Overview

History

Twitch.tv was founded in 2011; however, its roots go back to Justin.tv, formed in 2007 by Justin Kan and Emmet Shear. With the gaming portion of the newly launched Justin.tv taking off, the company moved their focus to creating Twitch.tv where content could be viewed live or watched on demand.

Users & Audience

Users who stream video games and other content are called streamers. "Streamers" have their own name and channel that they can customize.
