Hi Sam!

I really enjoyed your writing. You bring a unique perspective to this assignment because you’ve had a Facebook profile for much less time than most of the other students in our class. As such, your reasons for having a profile and the ways in which you maintain it are different.

Overall, I think you did a nice job assessing your Facebook identity relative to who you really are. I can relate to not feeling the need to document every aspect of your life online. I particularly liked your discussion about how most of your profile is composed of pictures and articles that other people have tagged you in and how this exemplifies the ability for others to manipulate your online identity. Something you mentioned throughout your writing was that your Facebook profile shows that you transferred from Clemson to Michigan but not how hard you had to work to get here. While I understand that might be very personal, providing some more details about this would have given your audience a better understand of the aspects of yourself that don’t come through online.

In terms of the quality of your writing, I thought it flowed well and was edited nicely. I particular like the way you “dated” your profile in conjunction with your personal development over the years that you’ve had a Facebook profile. I do think this section was a bit repetitive at times, and cutting it down would have made it even more effective.

In conclusion, I think your explained the differences (and similarities) between your online and offline identities in a unique way. Great job!
