Talk:Fortnite (video game)

The length of the first draft is around 1800 words but I think there are some aspects you can add into your article that will lengthen it to around 3000 words. First, I would encourage adding a History section which could delve into the creators of the game and how it became such a success. In the opening paragraph you did a great job of highlighting the rise of Fortnite between 2017 to 2021, but you could definitely add a section that goes more in-depth on the game’s growth. In a later section, you mentioned how Fortnite eventually gave inspiration credit to the creators of Among Us after plagiarism claims in the patch note of an update. It could be interesting to have a section dedicated to its various Patch Notes throughout the years if you decide to include a section about Fortnite’s growth. This could be an easy way to pick out when and where big changes in the game occurred.

The structure of your MediaWiki looks really good and I think each body of your sections make sense. However, in your opening paragraph, I would end the final sentence highlighting some of the ethical concerns that you will bring up later. For your ending sentence, it focuses on an issue with Apple about an unapproved payment mechanism, but the article never touches on it again. I would add a section on that, but also change the ending sentence to focus on the ethical issues you will eventually delve into. A lot of your sources are also really good, I would just make sure to cite everything. For example, in your section on the three types of Fortnite games you can play, I would cite those sections with sources that have explained each version. In the section on Plagiarism, I would also be careful about who you are citing from. I think you raise a lot of important concerns, but quoting a Twitter user who plays Fortnite might not be as useful as citing another source that also delved into the similarities between the two games. In the section about Addiction, I would also be careful about citing a source that is from a blog post. Maybe look into some scientific research articles that have studied addiction caused by games like Fortnite?

For your ethics section, I think each problem you laid out is really important and the issues at stake are extremely clear to the reader. Based on the rubric, I would also say to make sure you include the viewpoints of multiple stakeholders. You raise a lot of great ethical issues, especially ones that pertain to children and their parents, but I would make sure to include the viewpoint of Fortnite. You did a great job of including Fortnite’s view in the first ethics paragraph on Underage Gambling, but in the later paragraphs, I think you could add more information about how Fortnite responded to their criticism. For example, in the section on Cyberbullying, I think it would be important to include whether or not Fortnite has made any comments on these issues of bullying over gender and wealth.

The language of the article is fairly neutral. In the ethics section with Plagiarizing Among Us, I think you could add in more detail about what exactly the lawsuit from PUBG Corp entailed. The quote you included was helpful, but if you imagine yourself explaining this issue to someone who has no prior knowledge about Fortnite, it might be good to add more background details about what exactly the court case was about beyond just saying it was about stealing intellectual property. I am also curious if Fortnite released any statement to the media during this lawsuit, despite it being dropped against them. In the Underage Gambling section, the sentence “Since a lot of streaming audiences are teenagers, it was possible that they were addictive to that and spend a lot of money” caught my eye. In order to remain as objective as possible when reporting on Fortnite’s ethical issues, I would try to avoid speculating on the why unless you are directly citing a reliable source that accurately came to that conclusion. Including these various quotes and more information could help to make this section more neutral and allow the user to come to their own conclusions about these issues.
