I think that your analysis of your Facebook use is accurate. We haven't been Facebook friends for a very long time, but I know you're not someone who posts super often. It seems like you are someone who does think before you post. It was interesting to learn about how you decide what is appropriate and interesting to your audience. It's also clear that you spent some time thinking about how you want to be perceived and how you are actually coming across to people. As far as the over all structure and writing style of your assignment, I think you did really well. I really like how you used the warped photo because I think this adds a lot to how your essay addresses the question are you the same on Facebook as in real life. I also really like how you used questions, they helped to break up your sections and keep readers interested. One improvement I think you could make is to go into a little bit more detail about your examples to help provide your readers with more context to the situation. -Casey Sunden

Caryn,

I like how you started with explaining how the primary and secondary elements in your Facebook page interact with one another. I thought that this part of your analysis was important and I think that including it in your avatar helps to set the stage for the rest of your Facebook autobiography. It seems like you have some similar Facebook habits to me, that often times things that are posted to your wall are out of your complete control. I too also have enabled the feature on Facebook to review photos that I am tagged in before they are published to my profile page. I recognize that you spent time on explaining the way you want to be perceived online in Facebook's environment, while still trying to maintain privacy and control over your online identity.

I felt that the overall structure of your writing was good, however I feel that in some parts of your autobiography you could have expanded further and added more details. What is the take away message regarding your Facebook acculturation? (Expanding beyond the surface elements...) I especially enjoyed reading the end of your avatar page, where you begin to talk about how Facebook uses clues about its users, and "thinks" that you should study abroad based on your spending time with a lot of international students in your student organization.I think that Facebook revealing your "sub-conscious" was a great way to leave the reader thinking about targeted advertising, especially on social media platforms like Facebook.
