This is such an interesting article! First of all, the length of your piece is great for the draft. Be sure to add more for the final version. Your piece does have three major components that make logical sense - the background, which summarizes the issues, and the body of the article which includes: the history, the algorithm, and the effects on mental health. The effects on mental health category has subsections that also logically make sense as subsections rather than different sections because they talk about different negative ways that mental health is impacted by Tik Tok. One suggestion I have is that ethical implications may not be a mental health related topic. Potentially it should be a different section. Additionally, your references section appears as a subsection but should be a new section entirely. In terms of statements that are backed up by references to reliable sources, be sure to add this in to indicate where the information is coming from. This part seems to be missing so far. The issue of the tik tok algorithm potentially causing harm to one’s mental health is clear to me. I understand why it may be unethical for a company to prioritize their engagements and subsequently, their earnings, over their users’ wellbeing. I wonder if there is any way to track when Tiktok earnings have increased and if there is any way to see if that correlated with any reports of users’ mental health. That would be interesting data, if it’s available online. I do not think you stated your opinion, which is great. However, I believe you could write more about the point of view of people who think that tik tok causes happiness in order to maintain a neutral point of view. I also think you could talk about Tik tok’s response to these points of views, to address the opposing stakeholders.
