I really enjoyed reading your statement! This was a pretty comprehensive piece and I felt like your were very honest with yourself when writing this. The beginning of your statement was particularly interesting when you talked about privacy that was imposed by your parents. Hi Hannah,
Thank you so much for your personal narrative! I believe these essays are powerful ways for us to learn more about ourselves, our habits, and how we've grown during the years - and as you've successfully explained, you've changed since your first introduction to social media. One thing which I found interesting is that you used "a modified name and never uploaded photos of [youreself] for two years". This reminded me of discussions regarding Facebook pushing for an "authentic" name and identity on their profiles. If you were to talk more about your experience with others while being semi-anonymous, that would be amazing. I also found it interesting how you argue that you've grown to detest Facebook and other forms of social media. I think that's something interesting about our generation where we've come to understand the importance of face-to-face interaction and meaningful relationships, so we've learned to have more controlled online profiles. For example, making our Facebook "professional" for recruiters and "clean" for family on Instagrams as an outlet to show our art or nice photographs. However, because we've come to appreciate personal interaction, we've come to enjoy messaging platforms more. This is evident by your dedication and importance to Facebook Messenger. For edits, I'd suggest adding subtopic headings and doing a reverse outline so you can identify the purpose of each section. In the blogging world, we've become used to going directly to the information we want instead of reading through the essay. This involves deriving information from titles and captions. I'd encourage you to explore this. Amazing job!
