Shruti Swaminathan - Peer Review

Priya’s article, “Ethics of Data Mining” met the article length requirement at 956 words. The introduction was straightforward and provided a definition of data mining as well as a few examples of its usage in society. The body of the article is structured logically, starting with an expansion on the types of data mining, relationship with social media, and then the author concludes with the ethical concerns surrounding data mining. The references selected are scholarly and add value to the statements made in the paper. A suggestion I would add is possibly also adding a reference to the “Predictive Data Mining” section to support the definition. The issue at stake is made clear, as well as the two different perspectives shared, that of the corporations’ as well as that of the general public’s. When discussing the ethical controversy, Priya takes on an objective point of view and uses credible sources. When expanding on the article in the future, you could possibly also add a section regarding the current laws or regulations in place with regards to data mining.
