A connected car is an automobile that has telecommunications capabilities. These telecommunications capabilities started with the the introduction of OnStar by General Motors in 1996. In 1996, OnStar was offered as way for drivers to be linked to 24 hour OnStar representatives that could give those individuals driving directions, offer emergency assistance, or call emergency services for them.
