Filter Bubble
A Filter Bubble is the isolation/dilution of outside information or opposing viewpoints by algorithmic or design purposes. Instead, an ethnocentric environment is formed. This occurs when an algorithm returns content or queries sorted based on its assumption of user relevance. This becomes important as social media--sites that rely on a relevance based algorithm to sort displayed content--acts as a news medium. As a platform, these sites control the flow of media coverage and political discourse, isolating users in their own cultural or ideological convictions. This became apparent in the Wall Street Journal's article titled [1]
