Facebook presents content to its users through their newsfeed. A user’s newsfeed is the main page on their Facebook account. It is constantly updating to provide the user with the latest information. What Facebook’s algorithm chooses to include on a user’s newsfeed is the process of curation. Facebook newsfeed curation is done through a highly specified algorithm in order to provide the most relevant content to that user. The algorithm works to match pages that the user has viewed in the past, pages that the user has liked, and other information scrapped from the user’s computer through cookies to create the most personalized newsfeed possible. There are many ethical implications related to this process since a user may be missing important content when Facebook’s algorithm chooses what to present in the user’s newsfeed.
