Avatar Assignment Peer Comments

Neel

Lucas Zaima:

What's up Neel. I'll analyze your Avatar assignment in accordance to each section:

Intro: Your intro is good. It sets the overall tone of your assignment by immediately describing your Facebook usage and how Facebook operates for you. You use it as a way to keep in touch with family and friends that you might not see or talk to on a regular basis. This is something that you likely couldn't do without Facebook, so it might be worth mentioning that.

Staying Connected: You mention that, at first glance, your Facebook profile highlights the overall theme of "staying connected." this is manifested by the abundance of tags and pictures from your trip to Africa. You also include a screenshot of your tagged pictures from Africa, both ones that you've uploaded and ones that others have uploaded and tagged of you. The screenshot is a perfect illustration to your point. The reader gets to see exactly what you are talking about through a graphic representation, ultimately driving your point home. Your last sentence, "This gave me a chance to connect and stay in touch with them over Facebook after such a life-changing experience" is a good conclusion, but are there more specific ways you kept in touch other than tagged pictures? Did you share laughs through the comments of the pictures? What are the various locations all your friends are from? Do you think that Facebook helps bring the cultures together? Just some questions to think about if you want to expand this section.

Medical Mission to Zambia: In the first paragraph, you describe the primary and secondary elements that allowed you to stay connected to your friends and connections from Zambia. Good job. You also do a good job explaining your ethical acculturation with your friends from your Zambia trip by explaining how you take a high maintenance and high participation approach. One thing that is slightly confusing is the “community” that your personal values are in sync with. Is it the Facebook community of your friends from Zambia or is it the Facebook community as a whole?

Facebook Acculturation You analysis of your acculturation is also very clear and explanatory. You mention how you don’t use Facebook to its full potential by not posting statuses, posting pictures, etc. Now, you mention that you have liked a select amount of things that would either be useful or are things that are close to you. Do you think it’s harder or easier to read someone’s avatar on Facebook by being carefully inactive or completely inactive?

Final Thoughts Overall, your Avatar reflection is very thorough and clear. The use of your images is very helpful when connecting the dots between your text descriptions of your usage and the graphical representations of your written descriptions. Everything is organized well and is logically ordered. Good Job!
