The 2016 presidential election was one that entered a lot of uncharted territory. Suspected hacking lead to a post-election investigation by the U.S. government. The prevalence of technology throughout campaigns and the election itself by nature increases the chance of interference. Campaigns communicated by email, votes were cast electronically, and systems ended up being targeted by international actors.
