Bryana thoroughly describes the issues she faced with her avatars. First, she needed to truly see her appearance as it is, rather than imagine it for better or worse. Bryana's recognition of this significant issue is excellent. Second, Bryana demonstrated an attention to detail through her keen observation of the inability to modify neck size in Evolver. It was also insightful that Bryana sought the ability to paint the nails of her avatar. It is often these seemingly minor features that can make a substantial difference in identity. Bryana highlighted the more apparent issues as well - the lack of options for skin tone, freckles, hair styles, and shoes. She did not shy away from expressing the emotions she felt when facing these issues that challenged her identity: "infuriating", "frustrating", "disheartening". Bryana's reflection on the issues embedded in her avatar creation is very well done.

This author did a fantastic job using a film to anchor her reflection. She is open and honest in her reflection and allows us to see into her world of identification and representation with the Black Swan. She explains her closeness to this character and does not shy away from exploring the difficulties and struggles that she shares with this character. She gives a brief description of the actual process of her building her fantasy-avatar, which I think is sufficient as she focuses her discussion on her ability to identify with the Black Swan and explains the reasoning behind her avatar creation well.

The author also does a very good job with this. She explains which steps in the process of creating her self-portrait avatar were difficult, frustrating, and even infuriating. She gives details about which features were most troublesome and why they were most troublesome to her. She is sincere in her troubles with the program and its limited options as well as with the personal difficulties of creating and objective representation of herself. She explains why the process was difficult on a technical level as well as on an emotional level for her. Bryana has written an introspective reflection filled with honesty. She clearly communicates her thoughts throughout the process of avatar creation and elaborates on life experiences that defined those thoughts. Further, her Black Swan reference is intentional and illustrative of the rationale for her fantasy avatar's appearance. The description of Black Swan made the connection natural between her avatar and the movie character - they share in the same struggles. Bryana's selection of the Black Swan as her outside resource makes the reflection thought-provoking.

1) How did the author use an outside source(s) of information to anchor their reflection? This author did a fantastic job using a film to anchor her reflection. She is open and honest in her reflection and allows us to see into her world of identification and representation with the Black Swan. She explains her closeness to this character and does not shy away from exploring the difficulties and struggles that she shares with this character. She gives a brief description of the actual process of her building her fantasy-avatar, which I think is sufficient as she focuses her discussion on her ability to identify with the Black Swan and explains the reasoning behind her avatar creation well.

2) How well did the author describe the issues that he or she faced in creating the two avatars? The author also does a very good job with this. She explains which steps in the process of creating her self-portrait avatar were difficult, frustrating, and even infuriating. She gives details about which features were most troublesome and why they were most troublesome to her. She is sincere in her troubles with the program and its limited options as well as with the personal difficulties of creating and objective representation of herself. She explains why the process was difficult on a technical level as well as on an emotional level for her. I think one of the best points in her reflection is her questioning of the ethics behind the software; “It is my guess that the evolver software was generated by a homogenous group of people who created unlimited possibilities to model one another, but neglected or forgot about the various subtleties of those outside the group." I think this statement is very insightful and lets us understand where she feels many of these issues are rooted.

Overall, I felt this was one of the best written reflections that I read.
