Google Results

The first couple of things you’ll see when looking up Anas Morsi on google are relatively professional. The results displayed my LinkedIn profile, my personal website with serves as a portfolio, and a link to my resume on my website as well as other links in regard to my career and school journey. The images section even included a picture of me amongst many other pictures of Egypt’s president Morsi. This was expected since I share a last name with such a public figure. There was also a large amount of information that was completely random and even false about me so a google search, in my opinion, is definitely not a reliable source when seeking information on a low-profile individual

Profile and Background Search

When I tried a deeper search on background check engines and profile searches most of them required some sort of subscription or fees to perform the searches which may be worrying since it shows that if someone has the financial stability and is willing to invest in finding out about other people’s sensitive information they could do so. The other free search engines don’t seem to return much more information than what I could find through a generic google search. They just display it in a way that makes it seem like they underwent a thorough investigation.

Conclusion

In conclusion, it’s clear that a large portion of our information that we choose to share online whether it’s professional or for social media usage is in fact within reach of other people on the Internet. Although the majority of these websites that store the information say in their privacy policy that they do not sell, trade, or otherwise transfer to outside parties your personally identifiable information for marketing purposes without your consent. They do specify that they may also release your information when they believe release is appropriate to comply with the law, enforce our site policies, or protect ours or others' rights, property, or safety. This is just a release from a willing standpoint. It goes without saying that since this data is stored, it could be unwillingly breached or leaked to other users who are digging for others’ personal information, and not to mention could even be sold to others for the right price as we’ve seen ethical dilemmas like that arise before.
