Talk:TikTok Censorship

Overall, I found this article to be very interesting, as it discusses one of the most popular social media platforms today. Based on the requirements for the MediaWiki assignment, I have written the following feedback.

The length of this article does not currently meet the 3,000-word requirement, as it is about 1,000 words. However, there are sections of this article that are not yet finished, so I do not believe this should be a large issue. In addition to those sub-topics, I would suggest expanding on a few of the written sections, such as Features, False Negatives, and False Positives. It would be useful to further explain them and to provide examples if applicable. One element that is mentioned throughout the article is the “For You” page, which is a significant aspect of the platform. I would suggest defining this feature somewhere in the article to help readers who may not be familiar with TikTok better understand.

This article does include the three major components of a good article. This article contains an opening paragraph that summarizes the issue. I would suggest including information about who TikTok’s users are as well as examples of how they are using the platform to provide some more context. The body of this article can be found in several sections. I found the organization of this article to be done very well, with the content being divided into clear and meaningful sections. The topics discussed throughout the body of this article were all very relevant to the main issue being discussed while still being broad in coverage. This article also includes a list of references at the end. Although the references appear to be made up of mostly web articles, they seem to still be from credible sources. I would suggest looking for additional research studies or research articles that may be relevant to the issue in order to ensure that this article continues to be backed by reliable sources.

The topic of this article was also very clear. As the reader, I understood which ethical issues were being exposed in the writing. This article does an excellent job of introducing different types of issues as well as providing examples of when and how each issue can be seen. I would suggest continuing to elaborate on this section of this article, focusing more on what the ethical implications are and why these ethical issues are important.

I believe the author did a good job reporting on the ethical issues and controversies of TikTok objectively. The author does not appear to state any personal opinions or ideas. I would, however, suggest backing up more of the statements with references. For example, the information about the United State’s attempt to ban TikTok could be supported with a reference. The list of keywords discussed in the Policies section of this article could also be backed by a reference to clarify how these were identified to have been suppressed on the platform. Adding additional references will help uphold objective reporting.

In general, I suggest being mindful of the spelling and capitalization of the platform’s name. It should be spelled TikTok, not Tiktok or Tik Tok. Additionally, a few sentences are missing or have incorrect punctuation (ex: False Negatives and False Positives). This assignment also requires each article to include a form of illustration, such as an image, video, or audio. Make sure to include this in the final draft, along with the appropriate copyright information and caption. There are also some instances where a reference is not clearly attached to a statement (ex: reference 7). This makes it unclear what information it is intending to support. Lastly, I suggest adding a heading for the list of References to clearly separate them from the rest of this article.
