John Wisniewski's review of Emily Dershowitz's Data Identity

I really liked this piece! Not to get too far ahead of myself, but I thought the quality of this piece was great. The flow was logical and made sense. I also really liked how you went through your results, from the first to the third. I also thought your style really helped to convey your message. It felt like a reflection and the personal touches helped keep my attention. I also think that your piece accurately conveyed that your online presence did not fully reflect who you are now. I really liked how you mixed in your analysis of this with the information as it was presented, it made the flow much better. If I had to suggest one improvement, I feel like you could add a little more analysis of the ethical implication of your data identity. I wish you had talked more about the GLA information, and the implication of this being a prominent part of your identity. Overall, I thought it was very good and well written.

Hey Emily, I really enjoyed reading your avatar page!

I think you did a good job of separating your article into separate chunks while still flowing between each section smoothly and logically. I also liked how you talked about the ways people tend to use data information. Regardless if it is a casual or professional meeting, I know that I am prone to googling a person I am planning on meeting. You make a good argument that the person that we find online is often very different from the person we meet.

One way I think you could improve your writing is by drawing a connection back to the material that we learned from class. It may be interesting to explore how your personal identity has changed from your 2015 profile, but has not been reflected in your data identity. You could also talk about the implications that come from judging people from their data identity, especially when it comes to things such as employers searching for their employees online.

Overall I thought you did a really good job with your post. You definitely spent some time exploring and analyzing your online profile and I enjoyed reading about your insights!
